First just wanted to tell the people on this forum thank you! I had alot of questions leading up to my first ironman which i completed saturday in Texas. And you all were very helpful. I had a great race and now its time for the tattoo! So opinions, traditional mdot? Red or neutral color? Any suggestions? Any experiences? Thanks!

As with anything permanent on your body, make sure it's something you want...not something that you think others approve of.  Because in general...most people don't care.

But if you're asking for opinions...I'd probably go for something like this.

Congrats. It is something I can only dream of until I learn to swim better!

Congrats!

Make sure it's something you want forever and/or is in a place you can ignore.

That said, here's mine. I got it all at once but it's about a lot of things. I'm a pilot, thus the wings, Timberman was my first IM branded race (even though it's a 70.3) so the M is dark green that doesn't show up well in that pic and the numbers are self explanatory for races I've done.

Welcome to the club IRONMAN!!!!

There is a great page on Facebook called IronMan Tats

Check it out.  Several examples of what people have done and then multiple disucssions about locations, styles, Mdot vs 140.6 distance races, customization, design stealing, etc.  Gets pretty heated too.

At some point I'm going with an M-Dot on my right shoulder without an outline (yet another topic of discussion).  Probably when I start marathon training after the tri season is over for me.  Can't take a break from swimming for 2-3 weeks to let it heal.

Congratulations, IRONMAN!

I have no iron type tattoo yet. But when I get it, I want it to also incorporate the specific IM I did. Just food for thought.

Congrats!

As far as tattoo goes that is a tough one. My wife thinks I should get an IM tattoo if/when I complete my first in June. I am open to the idea but only if it is more than just an mdot and has some actual meaning. I have thought about something along the lines of a front bike big ring gear with the three sports inside and a 140.6 or an mdot worked in somehow. Not really sure.

But I say no color, I like colorless tattoos better. And I hear they are easier to take care of.

I'll definitely 2nd Jason's recommendation.  That's one serious tat!  Oh, and congrats on becoming an Ironman!

Here is mine, right after it was done, so it looks "dotted", almost like dri-fit material. That is just the pores opened up and skin irritated from the process.

I used Jesse at Crow's Nest Tattoo up in Spring area. He was recommended by a co-worker who has two full sleeves so knows his tattoo game

I agree. I wanted mine to say IM Whistier and not IMC.

The OP should search IM Texas images for inspiration and then decide.
