I hope this photo works, I saw this little guy out on a trail run last Thursday. It's an echidna, our version of a porcupine.

George - tough call on racing so soon. A half ironman is a pretty serious event. Are you signed up? If so, hoe can do maintain emcee training for two weeks then decide during taper week.

After my "Across the Lake Swim" a while back they wrote an article about what happened and I thought maybe it might be of interest.  It's a bit long but it has a bit of humour and is a bit interesting (plus I liked the title).

I hope it will work.

Interesting read! That GPS map from one of the swimmers was quite telling. I'd never heard of a Seich wave before. You should definitely be proud of that swim.

Nice speedy race! You are in a tough division to say the least.

That grill looks amazing. Enjoy!

I thought you'd appreciate the grill!

The overall winner was in my age group but he's a bit of a phenomenon in and of himself. He wins all of the sprints in this area!

Gary

Good RR and Good job on the sprint must a PR for you comparing to before vs. your races with the Hybrid, but seriously even with your envying numbers thats one tough bracket you got yourself into.

Again Congrats!!!

Cheers

Really interesting! I never would have expected a current in a lake! The GPS track they show is certainly telling. George, you should feel doubly proud of your accomplishment!

What have you decided, George? I like the volunteer-but-don't-race idea.

I'm thinking I'll just volunteer for Challenge this year.  I know I could finish the race but I can't really see that I could improve on what I've been able to do.  Also, I haven't done much since Calgary...except eat...

Marilyn and Nicole - how are you two doing?

Joe - Did I welcome you back?  I was beginning to wonder how you were making out.

Anna and Gary - I liked your animal pics.  It is always neat to see wildlife when we're out training.

Carlo - Glad you're still here.  I had noticed your absence.

Mike - I think I need to focus more on running this fall.

Hey everyone!

George, I think volunteering sounds like a good idea as well. I just found out the Baltimore Triathlon is full so I will not be able to participate this year, but may volunteer. It's on my nephew's birthday though, and my friend's baby shower is that day, so I will have to see what the plan is.

As for my injury, I went to the doctor for a follow up yesterday and he said the fact that I've seen progress (I don't have as much pain anymore, even after wearing heels at a wedding this weekend) is a big deal and a very good sign. He cleared me to slowly get back into things (mainly he cleared me to play volleyball, but if it feels good there I will be able to start running again and what not). Fingers crossed!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

I think volunteering is a great idea too. I'll never forget two volunteer experiences I had at Branson 70.3 a couple years ago. First I did body marking and it was cool to chat with the athletes and see the range of emotion that goes on pre-race, everything from relaxing and joking with friends, to nervous chatting to scared. The I did crowd control for the T1 exit. Seeing the pros go by was amazing, then then top age groupers then FOP which by that time I was questioning why I even do triathlons. The the MOP age groupers then BOP at which point seeing people just like me made me feel good about doing tris again. Then I saw people struggling that were going to be so happy and proud when they finished that it was really inspiring.

Anyway, have fun! Hope you get to do something cool.

if it weren't a billion degrees and a billion percent humidity, i would give running a try tonight.  my ankle has been mostly good, stiff and achy the morning after a good workout, but no more sharp pains.  so that's REALLY exciting.  i'm registered for an 8k running race and a sprint tri in a few weeks, still haven't made a decision on what to do for either.  want to register for a half marathon in november (outer banks, NC) but i'm thinking there is NO way i'll build my mileage back up that fast...

but i think i'm over the hump (KNOCK ON WOOD!)

Really glad to hear you're doing better Marilyn.  I was hoping you'd be due for some good news.  We've been pretty hot here as well.  For awhile I was going out running at 6:00am but now even that time is quite warm.

Anyone ever done a functional threshold power test on a Compu trainer? Did one this AM since I am new on the bike and want to go about systematically improving. My FTP was about 190 with I think 2.4 w/kg. I'm exhausted! Think I'm going to sign up for som computrainer classes to see if I can improve my power.
