Subject: Push through or Time to Panic?
Looking for someone's .02 here,

I've been training for a HIM on June 14th. Up to last week my training has been very consistent using a 4 week training structure (3 weeks "on"/1 recovery week). I had a 6 day vacation/wedding last week so I pushed out my recovery by 1 week to coincide with the vacation. I was extremely happy with my last few training sessions before leaving and I planned on coming back for a solid 2-3 week build before taper/race. I was in a house with 9 recent college grads so needless to say it was completely unproductive for training.

So far my first 3 days back have been awful. My hr is about 10-12 bpm higher with a slower pace across all 3 disciplines and I've been hurting more than usual. Is this something I should panic about with my race only a few weeks away or is it just a shock to the system which I'll bounce back from in a day or two?

It's only been 3 days/workouts, so I wouldn't be too worried right now. If you're still feeling this way next week that might be an issue but I suspect you'll work through it.

yes, at this point, panic would be appropriate and very usefull....

first thing, simply get back into your routine, and leave your hr at home where it s truly the most usefull.

do the training, things wil get back to normal within a few days... it s normal to feel tired and flat after a period of almost complet innacitivity... body goes in recovery and take awhile to spring back...

IF you feel your not pushing through just have to get your bike out there and get your mileage and to HELL!! with it in the house who has something to say to it.

If your also lacking on groundwork just put on those running shoes and just head out for a run!! dont bring any cellphone with you or any means of anyone to contact you. You are going for an hour run and you dont care what they have to say!!!

You'll be fine Goodluck on your race!!!

So ya just follow your plan and it will come around. One thing to keep in mind is that if you were at low altitude and live at a higher altitude it will take 7-10 days to reaclimate to elevation. Anyway, just hang in there you should be alright.

well, an obvious question is "how much alcohol were you consuming?" if you were partying down with the college crowd it might take a few days to empty out those toxins. just saying

no reason to panic. everyone has ups and downs for no apparent reason during this kinda exertion.
leave the gadgets at home and just train like you feel for a week or so and then reassess.

Confessions of an open water chicken. I'm OK when the water is clear and the creatures are visible; it's just when I can't see them that the panic sets in.

Good memories are crucial to your success in the water. Trying to swim laps before you are comfortable in the water is likely to reinforce your anxiety, so avoid the white-knuckle approach.
