Surprisingly, it looks like our last 100-miler was last weekend. We have a "recovery week" this week, with a longish brick tomorrow (4 hour ride, 90 minute run). I kind of wanted to get in one more 100-miler, but maybe I should just go with the schedule? Next weekend we go down to 70 miles on the bike. I am with you WyattErp, I am not going to miss those 6-hour training days...plus the prep, loading the car, driving, etc. I am sure my family feels the same way.

I'm with both of you on the 6 hour training days... everyone I know is going to be glad those are over. The good side is that now a 4 hour day is like nothing happened!!! I think we can all pat ourselves on the back (especially some of us first timers for making it through and those vets for helping along the way) for truly entering beast mode!!! Now we just have to stay healthy and bring it to the Woodlands!!

That being said, I rolled my ankle on running Wednesday, but I don't think it is going to be a problem by race day.

For what it's worth, I am a bubble wrap salesman!!! Literally I have a 40,000 sq.ft. warehouse full of it and other protective packaging supplies!

My wife was able to knock out her last long ride two days ago, I've got mine on tap for Sunday. Looking forward to the next few weeks of tapering while trying not to get fat

Have a great weekend!

Hrm hit a hailstorm during my run today with snow forecast for my long bike ride on Saturday. Not doing so well with the heat acclimation in my neck of the woods.

I don't know what I did to anger the triathlon Gods, but on my last day of peak training, and my last 100-miler the weather was a combination of the worst possible conditions:

-Heat Index: 102
-UV Index: 11 out of 10 (Yeah, they actually listed it as 11/10 and noted it "extreme")
-Wind 15 mph (which was at a slight angle to my out-and-back loop so that I didn't get much of a tail wind due to vegetation but got a full on head wind)

It was a rough way to end a rough week, but I honestly feel ready for whatever comes in Texas!

Totals for this week:

Time: 18 hrs 18 minutes
Swim: 6.3 miles
Bike: 191 miles
Run: 36 miles

Bring on the taper!

Lol we had a fresh couple inches of snow on the ground for my long bike ride so I did 112 miles indoors. Was 25F for my 17 mile run this morning. So no heat acclimation going on here. But should be good to go for the race. Yay taper begins tomorrow.

Put me down for the happy taper fan club. Reached the mountain top this week and now time to climb down. Peaked just under 20 hours this week, w a missed swim. Feel pretty good, although legs are a tad heavy. Looking forward to race day already and see where this training will take me.

Took the day off of work last Friday to get my last 6 hour ride in.  Had to bump my last long run to tomorrow because I spent the whole weekend in Galveston with my athletes doing the 70.3.  Very much worth it though.

I wonder if I am the only one who signed his kids up for the Ironkids race not realizing the kids race is the week before.....nice job WTC, scammed me out of a few bucks.

Why on earth would it be the week before? It has traditionally been the day before. My kids will be very disappointed that they will not get to run, get a medal, and a new shirt.

My guess is that it's because the race is on Saturday and The Woodlands sucks about shutting things down for much of anything.

Perfect conditions on the swim, rain and hail near the bridge on the bike, once the clouds cleared on the run it turned into a sauna.  Almost no wind though.

Even though it was our mistake since we flubbed up on the dates, Ironkids (Ironman) refunded our money. Have to say I'm impressed. After all these years, this is the first time I've had to make contact regarding anything and it was quick, efficient, and pleasant.

Now, back to tapering.

Have a great weekend, and train safe.

Missed and/or shortened a couple of rides due to weather, so I fell a little short on my volume goal there. Swimming has been limited due to the pool space demand around here. Very happy with my running. All in all, it was a productive month and my body is feeling it.

Swim: 12h 06m 00s - 37,050 yds
Bike: 31h 23m 39s - 650.11 mi
Run: 26h 38m 31s - 201.0 mi

I will finish out this weekend then start my taper.

Been reading through this thread and quite a bit of good info here! Looking forward to baking in a couple weeks. I've been taking as many precautions as I can, by wearing a heavy snow jacket everywhere I go (It's currently 80 degrees here in Southern California). April was my biggest month to date, and now I am beginning to taper

Swim: 62,300 Yards, 21:15

Bike: 53:11. 1,050 Miles

Run: 26:47, 218 Miles

See you all in Texas!

Okay, this might be a dumb question, but does anyone know what changes are taking place on the run course? There is construction going on and the waterway path is blocked after you pass the restaurants (heading out). I've looked on the race website and checked the athlete guide, but the course appears to be the same as the previous years. Maybe something has been posted and I missed it? The hubby and I ran the course today and were wondering where to go, lol.

I heard rumblings that it doesn't look like it will be wetsuit legal this year. Does anyone have any inside info on that?

I get a lot of tricep fatigue when using a wetsuit so I have to wear it swimming a number of times before the race (so that means starting tomorrow) to get used to it, but if it doesn't look likely, I may forgo that exercise. It's a bit hot down here to wear it and it's just a general pain. I'm probably in the minority hoping that it's not wetsuit legal.
