Did it this year. Still trying to decide between Texas and CdA.It's a really nice race. The roads leave something to be desired on the bike ride but the run is really nice, lots of people and beautiful for the most part.

Good luck and enjoy the journey!

I'll take a hot race with marginal roads in spots over a race with a hypothermia tent at the end of the swim.  IJS.  LOL.

Contemplating signing up. When does registration usually sell out? Planning a wedding and for the sake of my life need to secure wedding finances prior to committing to IMTX. Are there cheap places nearby to stay? This will be my 2nd IM but 1st at the Woodlands

I stayed at the Drury Inn just 1 mile away. Had the wife and kids but we were still able to get through the traffic and congestion of not being at the host hotel.

1.  Usually doesn't sell out until Nov. or Dec.

2.  Hotels:  There are quite a few in the area.  The Waterway Marriott is great if you have small kids.  The back door at the hotel goes right out to the run course and the finish line is pretty much 50 feet away.  I had a infant when I did the race in 2013 and my wife was able to go upstairs, feed the kid, and put her down for a nap between laps.  Pretty cool convenience.  There are a ton of others in the immediate area too.  That said IT IS PROM SEASON when the race happens and for the last couple years Dave Mathews has been at the amphitheater across the street.  It's a busy time in The Woodlands.

Has anyone stayed at the Residence Inn? I just made reservations there for next year's race with Marriott points. It looks like it's farther away but still walking distance? I'd rather not be at the host hotel with all the craziness and I like having a kitchen Ironman week.

Already? Come on Guys! With that said, I did it in 2013 - very fun and very challenging. Right now I'm training for IM Zurich. The word around the Camp Fire is that IMTexas 2016 will be in April.

Which one?  There are two Residence Inns in The Woodlands.  One is Market Street and the other is Lake Front Circle.  The Market Street location is nicer and also closer to the race site (technically closer to the swim start than the host hotel).  I stayed there in 2011.  I liked it.  Free breakfast, kitchen and free internet.

I'm in. Did it in 12', 13', and 14'. In 2015 my wife will be doing her first and I'll be by her side the entire way......unless she out swims me which is very possible since my Texas swims have been horrible. Still, I'm very excited.....but I still have 3 (maybe 4) more IMs this year so we'll see how that goes before I get all crazy for Texas.

Happy training and stay healthy.

Construction of a new hotel on the waterway about a block from the finish has been anounced. The linked article says it's scheduled to open in mid-2015. That may or may not be in time for the 2015 race.......

Hey, thanks for that. If all goes well this year this race will be #13 and I have never stayed at a host hotel. Since this is going to be my wife's first we were hoping to stay there. I now have rooms for my family, my parents, and her parents. A lot of $$$, sure, but since my wife usually totes our 3, 7, 8, and 9 year old around I thought the money would be well spent for the convenience.

Thanks again. Train safe

Robert

The rate they gave me is $240/night. I think the going rate is $290.00. I got family so just want it to be easy for them .If your single i guess their are more economical rates around.

I assume you decided to register.

Cheers

Same here, $240. The previous three years at IMTX I've stayed 5 -20 minutes away. Such an easy place to navigate, even on race day. Cheap, parking lots or free depending on the year. Staying at the Fairfield I saved over $120 a night and was right off the hwy. It was also right next to a super walmart and every other food store you could want.

But, since I have a bunch of old folks watching my 4 little ones, I'm going to pony up the dough and stay at the host hotel. I am a bit excited that I won't have to drive a bit once I park and that I won't have to get into a car after the race.

The first time I raced, my daughter was having her first communion the next day.......in Virginia. I finished IMTX, dropped my bike at tri bike transport, took a baby wipe shower, jumped into the rental car, drove to Dallas, slept for 2 hours in an airport, landed in Virginia beach, and was at the church 15 minutes before kick off.

I know that story doesn't have anything to do with hotels, but I had not thought of it in a while so I thought i'd share.

Lost a bet over the weekend... looks like I'm in for 2015 too.

Thankfully I didn't lose the bicycle bet.... trade my TT for a Beach Cruiser.

Absolutely. This year was windy, very windy, and I had zero issues with the disc cover.
