Subject: What to wear up top?
Asked this in my first thread but didn't get many opinions and I prob need to be more specific.

Basically I am hoping there is something available to wear in the water during the swim that is comfortable enough to swim in but dries quick enough to not notice once you get on the bike.

Down the road I may have a wet suit and not have to worry about it, but i'm kinda making my purchases based on usability outside the tri world and a wetsuit is not very high on the list

Thanks!

Not sure what replies you got in the other thread but why not a tri top?  If you shop around you can find pretty cheap options.  I prefer the Orca 226 which is slightly longer in the back.

Have you ever heard of a tri top? They're specifically made to swim in then dry quickly on the bike.

A sleeveless tri top is the best solution.  They're designed to be worn for the entire race.  As disussed in the your other thread, the last thing you want to do is to try to pull a dry shirt on over your wet torso in T1.  Almost impossible and a big time waster, especially in sprint races.

Nothing is going to be perfectly dry by the time you get on the bike so you may be a bit chilly at first, but they do dry out remarkably quickly.

A tri top should fit snugly; you don't want it to flop around and create excess drag either during the swim or on the bike.  Most have front zippers that you can undo to help cool down on the run.

In the past I've used Zoot and 2XU tops and currently have a Louis Garneau top that I like.

In this order:
Tri top
Performance T (DriFit, etc) (tight fitting)
Bike Jersey (tight fitting)

You've been pointed in the right direction with the tri tops, but I'm just throwing out there that you could "get by" with those other options. I don't feel that you are going to finish a race and miss a podium spot because you wore a DriFit shirt instead of a tri top. Now, be warned, though, that performance shirts really start stretching when wet, so even if it's snug while dry, it could become a giant parachute in the water. Or, it could stick to you like spandex. Just depends on the shirt and how you move through the water.

Best of luck.

(actually, I'm wondering if I didn't read closely enough, but this is referencing a sprint distance, right? If we're talking an Oly or longer, really, just commit to it and get the right top.)

Tri top or one piece Trisuit. Don't swim in a bike jersey without a wetsuit over it.

sleeves of a bike jersey could be annoying during the swim. I prefer a trisuit, but tri top is the way to go if you already have trishorts and don't want to spend the extra $20 or so for the full trisuit.

Wear a sleeveless trisuit or tri shorts and a sleeveless tri top. A bike jersey for swimming will be a disaster and sleeves on the run are annoying and hot. You can search for some good discussions on trisuit vs shorts and tri top. I personally prefer a trisuit.

If you do go the tri top route, pay attention to the one you get.  Before I started using the tri suit I picked a random shirt/short combo in my size at the local shop and the top's pockets were really loose causing all kinds of drag during my swim.  I never trained with the top on, so when I started my swim during my second race I was in for a huge surprise (put the top on during T1 my first race so didn't experience the drag).  After that I switched to a tri suit.

Many of the better tops have fold over pockets that prevent water drag.

I sometimes have severe pains on the top of my left foot. It feels like a knife is stabbing my inner foot on the outer portion of my foot. These pains happen mainly at night but not while riding.

How often should you have a bike tune up and what should be included? Is it unreasonable to expect a refitting as part of the tune up?
