Decent enough time all things considered but still had kind of a tough day out there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think the heat and I may have gotten a little dehydrated but I don't think more than usual. I didn't come into the race intending to PR so but even if I had it wouldn't have happened. Also, I really ate too much the night before the race and my gut felt kind of full and I felt almost like there was something stuck in my throat the whole race. I was having a hard day mentally too. Every once in a while a couple people would blow past me and that would mess with me since that is pretty unusual, especially considering it was happening later in the race. At some point around mile 20 I started catching and passing some people back, which was nice, but some I never saw again.

Event comments:

I would recommend this race to locals and to anyone like me who is working on collecting the 50 states. I'm not personally familiar with any other race in Indiana but South Bend was a nice town, Notre Dame has a lot of history and the race has been around a long while so they have their operation down.

Course: The run got hot and it had too much concrete and too many tight turns to really be a good course. However, it was supposedly relatively cool so I'm glad for that and the course is fine it's just not particularly fast.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.

I can't say it enough, the feeling of treading water for that final minute, helicopters over head, Mike Riley's Iron-voice over the P.A. - just awesome. I cannot believe I'm here!
