Pre-race routine:

Mingled with the Tri-Warriors.
Event warmup:

N/A
Swim
  • 05m 38s
  • 250 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. I was running out of steam because I haven't swam in months. I did try freestyle a little more than I probably should have.
What would you do differently?:

Work on kick turns. Swim more often.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Overall, a great T1. I wanted to break 1m and I did that. I had a little issue getting my feet into my shoes and I also pulled one strap completely through the loop.
What would you do differently?:

Strap my shoe bands onto the bike more securely. Although they did the job, I felt like they were the culprits in getting my feet into the shoes, aside from pulling one strap through. Otherwise, outstanding!

Bike
  • 42m 13s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Need to push harder on some longer rides. Overall, I felt the bike went well. I missed the final dismount because it was immediately following a right hand turn. I should have been paying more attention. Cost me about 10s to turn around and get over there. Dismount came up much faster than I anticipated.
What would you do differently?:

Study the map more to see the dismount. I didn't look at it on race day which is something I usually do.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

I should have broken a minute in T2. I am not sure what I did wrong. I think it was perhaps when I racked the bike. I had a little issue getting the cockpit over the bar and holding my helmet at the same time......
What would you do differently?:

Do the same. I don't know that I could have improved anything. It just didn't click on time. Overall great job!

PR.
Run
  • 35m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Poor run @ 11.5m/mi. Definitely need to concentrate on running more. Incorporate speed training, fartleks, and hills into my training.
What would you do differently?:

I don't feel that I burnt my legs on the bike. I feel that I need to concentrate more on running. Need to adjust my IM training to support more running to build stamina following a hard bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it out for a while. Did some lite stretching. Drank water and Gatorade and ate two Chick filete wraps.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

Will race again next year. Good beginner race and also training race.

“Too bad there’s not anything like this for triathletes.” There are a million books and articles on how to train. One of the toughest parts of triathlon training is how to fit them into everyday life.
