Triathlon Ready
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 14m 18s
Overall Rank = 81/710
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 9/55
Pre-race routine:

Bagel and Diet Coke, of course.
Event warmup:

10' or so jog with a couple of pick ups.
Swim
  • 09m 46s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 57s / 100 meters
Comments:

Took it easy on the swim very intentionally. Got a bit frustrated during the out leg. I was totally on course heading straight for the buoy, even a little wide, and some idiot kept swimming into the side of me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Just an okay T1. Took too long getting my socks on. Should have waited until T2 to worry about those. Even better, get some running shoes that I can sockless in.
Bike
  • 37m 25s
  • 14 miles
  • 22.45 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike. Hit a massive pothole early on and nearly lost my Garmin. Mount broke. Pulled it out and stuck it in my pocket. Looked at it later and realized I wasn't getting any power data, so no idea what it was. Pretty good result, though.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Run
  • 23m 54s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Lack of training showed up here. Lost myself close to 3 minutes because of it.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training much in June.

Event comments:

Good race, but holy crap was my AG fast. Top 3 all road over 23 mph and under 7 min miles. Two of them were sub-6:30.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
