Ideas to help with nasty lower back pain? I've seen my chiropractor and have another couple of appointments set up, but I need some immediate relief. I can take Tylenol, but (1) that doesn't help a lot, and (2) I don't want to take a ton. Ideas for stretches? Should I use ice/ heat?

depends on why you are getting the pain and exactly where it is coming from. I'd recommend first seeing a PT and getting a good eval to see what is going on.

I only say this because I have low back pain as well, went to dr, chiro but until I went to my PT, it wasn't getting any better. Now I have a solid plan because I know what the cause of it is and I can manage it pretty well.

I would say stretch your hamstrings, hips and piraformis along with working on core strength.

Good luck - it is frustrating!

Agreed.  Core strengthening exercises are key.  I was lucky that my chiro also did a bunch of stuff besides manipulation.  He did acupuncture, isometric stretches, K-Taping, plus assigning me some exercises.

As for immediate relief, ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory) and heat work better than Tylenol (just analgesic for pain) for me.  Combining the 2 is also safe and can be helpful.

Ice works much better than heat for lower back pain for me. Usually ice and anti-inflammatory and I'm back to normal in a couple of days.

What is the issue for back pain? Alignment issues? Disc bulging? Other? From this information, possible treatment can be "suggested".

Thanks for the input!

I'm pregnant, so I can only take Tylenol .... and I'm pretty sure that the back pain is coming from the extra 23 lbs . I know it's temporary but I'm still running and I'd like some relief. I'll try ice !

Well that kinda explains it !

Core work you can do while you are pregnant: planks, side planks, but don't overdo it. Can you get to a massage? That helped me a LOT during my 2 pregnancies, that and the chiropractor. Congrats and hope you find some relief!

A lot of us don’t spend too much time worrying about stretching and strengthening exercises for our lower back.
