Pre-race routine:

Ate, hung around...the usual.
Event warmup:

Swam for about 10 minutes
Swim
  • 13m
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the swim but probably could have gone faster.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Took too long putting socks on, but have a bad toe and had to wear socks.
Bike
  • 50m
  • 15.8 miles
  • 18.96 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't look at anything about the race ahead of time...oops! The course was nearly 16 miles while in my head I thought it was 14 and there were a lot of hills including a huge one where you come around a corner and suddenly *boom* there is the hill. I couldn't get into my lowest gear in time but managed to get up, whereas about 3 people jumped off their bikes right in front of me.
What would you do differently?:

Always push harder. I did try to keep it over 20 when it wasn't an uphill.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

I was in a relay so my friend ran the final leg. We got 2nd out of 2 relays. Woo woo. Saw many friends there, gorgeous day!

Event comments:

There were a few things that annoyed me--the guy chatting everyone up before he let us in the parking lot, which was just irritating at 630 AM. Also having to show the USAT number with ID even though we had to enter it online already. And having to undress for body marking while carrying everything into transition. But besides that I enjoyed the race. There's a chance I am just whiny today, too.

That's a pretty fast swim and a darn good bike for a hilly course.  Looks like you're ready for summer.  Good job and hope to see you at a race this year.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?
