Subject: Anyone have experience with atrial or supraventricular tachycardia?

I train by heart rate and over the last 6-7 weeks I've noticed some strange things going on with my heart.  I can feel heart 'flutters' at random times during the day.  Also, when I'm training--running especially--my heart rate spikes high right away and it takes a long time for me it settle it back down if I can at all.  My running Z2 is from 133-151.  I used to have to work very hard to get up to 140ish--usually hill running could get me up there.  Now my heart rate is spiking into the 150s and I'm running slower.  Is this a sign of fatigue and overtraining?  I tend to go,go, go--maybe I'm not resting enough.   When I did some searching on my own I came up with atrial or supraventricular tachycardia--one cause is fatigue.  I'm just wondering if anyone has had this same experience.

Kim

Get an EKG (Electrocardiogram) to get a proper diagnosis. Its cheaper if you can have it done in your PCPs clinic. Too expensive for an ER visit unless your feeling significant Chest Pains.

Go to your PCP and get a referral to a cardiologist.  An EKG is just a quick snap shot and unless you have an episode of your heart racing while you are lying there it won't show a problem. They can do a 24 hour monitor of your heart.  Wear it and go running to provoke your symptoms to get it recorded and doccumented

I have supraventricular tachycardia. My cardiologist has placed me on a low doseage of a beta blocker. It helps just a tiny bit -- when I take it regularly it prevents my HR from peaking at scary levels (~260+) when exercising, but it still gets very high (still 200+). My doctor hasn't expressed any real concerns about the over elevated HR; he's only said if I start feeling light headed to stop what I'm doing. I go in every 6 months for a checkup and to make sure that everything is still ok.

I've found it impossible to train using HR, especially since mine will easily get to 180 just walking. And with many training plans that tout the importance of HR training...well they are useless to me!
