love being in the Athena division? I actually have placed in both of my sprint tris that I have completed because I am a part of this group. The tris I have been doing have upped their weight limits, but I clear it by 5 #s! I mean I am happy to finish right along with all the other athletes of varying sizes, shapes and colors!

YAY!! One of the FEW and ONLY times in my life I am glad I weigh over 150#s.

I never been in Athena but yeah I do love it. Last race I volunteered at had a race not only have Clydesdale/Athena divisions but had 4 different weight groups. One girl complained I had her in the C division and not the D division. turns out she won the C division. I never saw anyone so happy.

I dig the idea behind it. It blows my mind, though, that more ladies don't race as Athenas.
I realize that today's society ostracizes women for being "overweight," but I can't recall seeing that sort of thing, blatantly anyway, in the tri community.

I like repping the Athenas, however, I usually choose to race AG since I want to race against my friends at the same time and not be relegated to starting at the end of the waves.  I still say the Athenas and Clydes rule!

Given that I am somewhat a beginner it feels good to compete with the big guys. I do check my time in my age group as well to see how I would have done. Heck I ran a 5k last week and only three guys in my age group50-59. I won but I tell people that the guy that finished second was running with his daughter and the guy who finished third was walking his dog lol

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
