Subject: School me in 10 --> 11 speed conversion
What exactly is needed to go from a 10 speed to 11 speed? (minus a new wheel) I read somewhere that the 10 speed rear derailleur works fine as an 11 speed one. If that's true, I would only need to change one of my shifters right? I don't plan to this anytime soon but it's on my mind. More so since I had to mess with spacers on a race wheel I got since I'm using a 10 speed cassette and it's an 11 speed hub. I have bar end shifters and honestly haven't looked in them, where the normal bike shifters I got to see how they work when replacing the handle bar tape.

You'll need shifters, rear derailleur, front derailleur (although it may work with a 10 speed, but it won't shift as crisp), chain, cassette, then of course the 11 speed wheel (the hub needs to be wide enough for a 11 speed cassette). This all holds true for Shimano. For Campagnolo, you'll need everything above except the wheel as the 10 speed and 11 speed is close enough to fit on the same hub.

Wow thanks for reply. Didn't think I'd need all that. I swore the rear could be reused. Little surprised the front matters at all. Looking at 30% of the cost of my bike to go to 11 speed. Think I'll stick with the 10 speeds + spacers then until I'm ready for a new bike

To be honest, unless you need to change out the components, I wouldn't swap out a fully functional 10 speed for 11 speed. Yes, the extra cog is nice to have, but it's not that much of a difference.

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
