Subject: HIM 3.5 months before IM Hi all,
I'm planning my race schedule now, and hoping to compete in my first Ironman on March 29. I did a 70.3 last year, but would like to do at least one more before my IM. The only thing that's available in my area and not sold out is a race on December 7, which is 3.5 months before the A race. Is this too far out to be beneficial?
Looking at the BT Beginner HIM plan, I'd need to start training now for the HIM, making my IM training 9 months of serious training. Am I setting myself up for burnout? Should I just skip the HIM, work on base-building now, and do a few olys as my race prep? The other advantage of the HIM is it's the only open water swim event available to me. There are olys pretty much every month leading up to March, but they are all in pools.
Thanks!
