Set Up Events
Total Time = 1h 06m 30s
Overall Rank = 4/258
Age Group = OPEN
Age Group Rank = 3/10
Pre-race routine:

Got up and ate breakfast at 5. Drove to event site 20 minutes away and got there a little before 7.
Event warmup:

Two short runs around the campus and 500 in the pool.
Swim
  • 04m 4s
  • 250 meters
  • 01m 38s / 100 meters
Comments:

Took the swim really easy to keep the HR down since it was really short and killing myself for a few seconds wouldn't pay off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

went smooth enough.
What would you do differently?:

could save time by not wearing socks and pre clipping the pedals in.
Bike
  • 40m 22s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 24.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Easy enough. Went as expected. There was a lot of traffic this year compared to past blocking the course in sections. Also had a truck pull out in front of me when I was 50ft from the driveway it was coming out of. that was fun.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 28s
Comments:

went well enough.
What would you do differently?:

not sure.
Run
  • 20m 57s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 11s  min/km
Comments:

The course was different from previous years and had a slight uphill finish. Course was a little long too which resulted in everyone hating their run split.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Went for a 60 minute ride on the SRT

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I raced on two days before in a crit and set power records for 4-31minutes and I felt like my legs were still a little trashed from that. The weather was also hotter than previous years since the race started later and there was no cloud cover.

Event comments:

Good race and a great venue. The race started a few minutes later than announced, and awards were almost 4 hours after I finished. Tons of post race stuff going on though as far as socializing and food/drinks for the athletes.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

A product review of the Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Shoe. After nearly two years of testing, see how this shoe performed. Currently being replaced by the Tri Air 2.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
