Boise, Idaho
United States
Treasure valley YMCA
85F / 29C
Sunny
Total Time = 43m 31s
Overall Rank = 3rd/75
Age Group = 50-55
Age Group Rank = 1/5
Pre-race routine:

worked all ight. Took a short nap and felt pretty good. New venue so there was a bit of confusion about transition areas. Potty break. Trying to stay in the shade
Event warmup:

Race was so short0my objective was to practice transitions. Did some jogging and swam 100 yrds for warm up.
Swim
  • 09m 21s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. Started in the back. Maintained composure-passed most people due to their sighting problems.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to 'race' the swim portion, but I'll take today's results.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

struggled to get into shoes. No body glide used, so next time I'll try that. Also, shoes hadn't seen much use, so they resisted being open.
Bike
  • 17m 4s
  • 6 miles
  • 21.09 mile/hr
Comments:

Good solid bike-thought i went out too hard, but held on ok in the run
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting shoes on. Race Pics showed some fit issues I can address. Bike would be uncomfortable for Oly/70.3 distance.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

no other timing data available
Run
  • 00m
  • 2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Legs were dead-that was expected. Started to come alive at 1/2 way point. Nobody in front/behind me, so it was hard to motivate myself to push the tempo.
What would you do differently?:

I need more fitness, but that was to be expected.
Post race
Warm down:

cold water bath

Event comments:

Popular race in the Boise area and the new venue is better, but there is some work around the transition areas that could be done. The area is too narrow to allow good viewing.

The doctor says not to run again. Ever. Needless to say, I’m not taking this very well. Can I recover from this? Where should I go from here?

I usually have at least one workout per day, sometimes two or three, but I spend about all in-between time eating. I am not gaining weight, but I am not losing weight either. Should I be concerned?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.

A product review of the Louis Garneau Tri Air Triathlon Shoe. After nearly two years of testing, see how this shoe performed. Currently being replaced by the Tri Air 2.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.
