Subject: Speed Sensor for Garmin 910xt

I just got new speed and cadence sensors (the non-magnet ones) and am curious if I need to remove the speed sensor when I am biking outside if I'd rather use GPS outdoors?  I guess my question is, which one does the Garmin look for first?

I thought I read that it looked for the speed sensor first, but my trainer is set up near a window and sometimes get GPS.  As I was biking on the trainer, it would sometimes go into auto-pause even though I was pedaling, which indicates to me that it was using GPS instead?  Then I went in and turned off GPS and it never went into auto-pause again.  So now I'm confused.

The Garmin will use GPS primarily, but will "overlay" the speed sensor data to complete missing information (for example when you go under a bridge, trees, etc.) where normally it would calculate speed based on time you were "missing" and the speed before and after. If you have the speed sensor, it uses this data instead.

In other words, you're better off keeping it on the bike when you ride outdoors.
