Anyone else out there like me calling "The Open Championship" the British Open?
Was it ever The British Open?
Just curious.

p.s. I sure hope Tiger's fully healed and ready to play well.

I call it the Open, and the US Open the US Open.

Tiger is 3 under right now. Lots of low scores out there this morning. Conditions must be good. I haven't see any of it yet.

I don't think it has ever officially been the British Open.  I have always called it that and it is often referred to as the British Open here in the U.S.

I definitely think that it comes across as presumptuous to call it THE Open Championship. It seem like a slight against the US Open, which to me is just as prestigious an event--maybe even more so.

Overall it was entertaining and I'm happy for Rory. He struggled for a while after his immediate success, so it's nice to see him back on top. I hate to see the David Duval scenario--when someone on the top of the golf world falls off and never recovers.

Let's take into account that "The Open" is actually the oldest major championship and therefore, was the first. The U.S. Open came along later and U.S. was added for differentiation. Even the official "The Open" often refers to itself as The British Open so IMO it's more a case of historical circumstances and tradition than anything else.

Rory couldn't be another Duval, unless he were to absolutely wreck his back and never fully recover. It's not like Duval just suddenly got bad
