I've gone through three different model of goggle at this point. They seem like they fit in the shop, but in the water they leak (usually in my right side). The local tri shop was strangely dismissive/useless about this. How do you find a pair that works? How do you test the fit?

When I test fit a pair of goggles I'm looking for a certain amont of suction without the straps.  I press them lightly and see if I get suction.  Do not rely on the pressure from the straps to form the seal.  You will end up with leaks and/or a sore face.

In general, goggles either fit in your eye socket or around your eyes. It may be that the shape of your eye sockets just doesn't allow a nice tight fit. You could try something like Aqua Sphere Kayennes, they fit nicely around the eyes and are very pliable.

this may or may not help, but the goggle needs to be placed up under the eyebrow, not on it. hair from the eyebrow=leaks.

That actually does help-- good point. My eyebrows actually go a touch under the ridge of my eye sockets, so that may be a factor. I'm using the Kayennes now, and there's no luck. I went to the store and tried every darn pair they had using the suction test, and couldn't get a single pair to stick. I might take a road trip to another store and see if there's someone more helpful there.

Thanks all!

For me, I just can't get a traditional goggle to fit right. I went to AquaSphere's mask style and absolutely love them. I can swim for an hour or more and never touch them. I've used the Vista and the Seal XP with great success. I don't think I would like them for a 100 yard sprint in a pool but for an OWS they fit great, no headache, no raccoon eyes and I think easier to sight.

The first time I tried one on in the store I put it on my face without the strap and it stayed there for several minutes. Likely not for everyone but if you are having a lot of problems with leaks from regular goggles, give one of these a try.
