Subject: pepto/ antacids..do they interfere with absorption

Anyone know of any info out there regarding using pepto or tums for gi distress during races (or training) and the effect on absorption of nutrition/ electrolytes?

I haven't found any important interactions between Pepto Bismol or tums and nutrients. They could maybe slow down gastric emptying and thus delay (not prevent) the absorption of water and glucose.

I seriously doubt antacids could importantly interfere with sodium absorption - this is pretty much the only electrolyte you need to worry about during running.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"
