Pre-race routine:

Got up early to take breakfast to church then came home and prepped for the race. DS2 and I drove the 10 minutes to the site then got our bibs, put on our gear and went for a warm-up ride.
Event warmup:

Rode a few miles to warm up then got in line.

  • 35m 14s

  • 17.37 mile/hr
Comments:

DS2 and I got in line and we decided he should go first so he wouldn't feel bad if he had to pass Mom. He took off then I got up to the spot and got ready with someone holding my bike so I could clip in.

I haven't done a TT since last year and haven't ridden the course since then either so this was just a see where I am ride and try to improve over the next 3 races.

I took off after the countdown and settled in the bars to race my race. The hills were comfortably hard. I was passed by six men (not all at once) on the way to the turn around.

As I approached the turn around I spotted DS2 and yelled for him but he didn't react. He told me later that he had turned in too big a gear and was fighting through that so he didn't hear me. About a mile after the turn I passed DS2 and told him that the wind was killing my downhills!

I was passed by a couple more men and a woman on my way back to the finish. At first I thought a man and woman were drafting but then I realized it was just a really slow pass (or they didn't want to get caught drafting as we neared the finish).

When I got past the finish I tried to go back and get a picture of DS2 but my phone died just as I "woke it up". Parental fail :(

Work on bike fitness

Warm down:

DS2 and I rode out the legs a little then changed to normal shoes and walked over to check preliminary results. Then we loaded up and went for a SBux stop.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike fitness

Event comments:

I don't want to disparage this race. It's just a no frills, bare bones time trial. They have drinks and a few snacks at the finish but there is no pomp and doesn't need to be.

I think it's so cool you get to do these. Fast, short series.

Does it fit well into your plan with coach?

What a great way to gauge your baseline and improvement, plus have a little fun racing with DS2.  And of course there was a SBux stop on the way home!  I'd be shocked if there wasn't.   Too bad about the phone dying.
