Subject: RE: Brick distances for a half There really is no need to do any bricks at all if your concern is building fitness. However, bricks are good for learning and/or testing pacing and nutrition. So the question I ask myself when planning a brick is how far do I need to bike/run (or possibly swim first as well) in order to feel confident with my pacing and nutrition plan. For me, the answer is usually around a 30 minute warm up on the bike, 2.5 hours at HIM effort, then a 35 minute run. Within 35 minutes of the run, I usually have a good idea if I executed my plan right. It should be the point where I just start to get into a groove and feel really good. If I'm struggling in any way at that point, I know I did something wrong. I don't need to run 10 miles in order to figure it out. Just my 2 cents of course. |
