OK, I walked the dog for 1 3/4 miles yesterday. Ran 8 miles today then walked the dog for another 1 3/4. Should I log dog walking miles in my training log. or just running miles.. What do other people do? I am following a marathon training schedule. Hal Higdon Novice 2. I will not replace running miles with dog walking miles but I was wondering if I should log the walking miles along with the running miles for total mileage..

It's your log, use it any way you want.

Personally, if I logged it at all it would be as a sport, not as running.

Everybody does it a little different.

Do you use your log to record all exercise or only running miles?

Are you thinking of the walking miles as a  warm up and cool down of your run?

Personally, if the walking was at a separate time of day - like I walked the dog in the morning but ran in the afternoon, I would record the walking as walking under sport.

But if it was all one workout I would not bother and record the whole thing as a run. I want to know total miles on my feet and I often take walk breaks during my runs when I'm trying to build distance. Then I would write up the details in the blog portion of my log.

Like Bear said, it's your log. You can record it anyway you want. It is there to track what is important to you.

And nice run by the way!!!

No. Too much stopping and sniffing along the way.

I personally log my running miles ( trail or track ) under RUN. I log my evening dog walks under SPORT/ WALK. I log my morning sub 12 min mile pace w/the Boy Dog under SPORT/POWER WALK. I say YES to adding the miles in to your training BUT do not substitute these miles w/your dog for training miles. Which you ARE doing away. Keeping track of all the miles will be helpful when looking back on them. Again, its your log and you have options. Have fun w/it. Cheers

Dog training techniques have surprising parallels to triathlon training and race preparation. All the lessons I THOUGHT were for my dogs started seeming very applicable to me! Here's what I learned.

My doctor says 140bpm HR is my max, but that feels like a walk in the park... I don't know what to do, how to train, and my motivation is waning. Any suggestions?

Running does not cause injury. Poor running form does. Running is more enjoyable, and safer if you know what you’re doing. And yes, even old dogs can learn new tricks.

My right foot is killing me (flat feet, wearing orthotics). I can no longer run on it and am forced to walk. After walking 10k, my foot felt like it was squeezed really hard.
