Hi all - participating in My first Olympic @ Stockholm 2014, after 2 or 3 Sprint Distances last year

Over the past 3 months my average weekly training hours are so Low - i feel so worried but presume surely others are in the same boat? Should i consider dropping to Sprint distance?

Run 15 K week av 3 months
cycle 15 K week av 3 months
swim 1.5 K week av 3 months

Cheers
JJ

That depends entirely on you. As I have discovered for myself, while there are general guidelines as to training levels for different distances, the "right" amount depends on how well you know your body and your general mental and physical fitness level. I'm signed up for my first Olympic next month as well, and I'm not even close to those volumes (although I'd like to be). I know my body well enough to be certain that when race day comes, I can finish without injury and have fun, even if I don't train "enough." IMO, for me, the only time standard training plans and a "correct" training volume apply is for an ironman race. That may be entirely different for you based on your age, fitness level, etc. I'd say just set that distance in your head and you'll be fine.

So, in an entire week you've been swimming the entire race distance? Can you even swim 1500 straight? I'm worried only because this is your first.

It's also not nearly enough training to have a decent bike and run.

How much time do you have before the race and how much do you plan to train before then?

It all looks low to be honest. 15k on the bike for an average week? That seems really low. If you do more than 1 bike training session that's what, 8k maybe each? Your race will be 5 times that (40KM), or roughly 3 times what your weekly load is. In terms of hours spent training what are you looking at?

The joys of à new baby

My race is 3 weeks away

I have 2 years of Sprint behind me i have competed in 3 Sprint races at around 1 hour 20min

My aim is to finish around 3 hours

I have completed all discipline distances in one off training sessions - however on average this is returns / shows alow level

Cheers

Enjoy your newborn - time for a runner stroller!

It sounds like you don't really care what any of the nay-sayers say and were just looking for confirmation that you could do it. So go have a fun race.

Your thread title is "Olympic training levels." You haven't really been training for an olympic triathlon. That doesn't mean you can't go out and do the distance.

If you had asked, "Is it possible to do an olympic on minimal training?" then of course the answer would be yes. But you knew that.

You can roll 5mph on a bike, or walk the run, but if you can't swim, they drag you out of the water. I don't condone swimming a race until you are ready.
