I'm wondering what the swimming is like here. I am VERY squeamish with weeds and will not swim in many lakes. However, I have the opportunity to compete in the Xterra Nationals. I usually scope out swims in person before signing up for a race, but live in WI. Anyone know how this swim is weed-wise, and what the entry/exit area is like as far as weeds (at Port Ramp Marina)? Thanks!

The entry/exit area is on a wide, smooth boat ramp which can be a little slippery, but the years I've been there for the Xterra there were no weeds to speak of. The run from the swim exit to transition has some small stones/gravel. The water is pretty cold, but much clearer than typical lakes I'm used to on the east coast.

My Tri group swims there every Wednesday night. It's great and little or no weeds ever. You are welcome to join us if you want, we are there at 6:45 and in the water by 7:00. We leave from Windsurfer Beach, about a mile and half north of the dam

I first decided I was going to "do" a triathlon in 1994. It wasn't until 13 years later, in 2007 that I actually did. Why did it take me 13 years to get to the starting line? The swim!

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.

Many people in the triathlon world think they need to just emulate Ian Thorpe to have a faster time, or have a similar stroke to Michael Phelps to cruise through the swim. Unfortunately...
