What does everyone think about this? I did this race last year and loved the course, but the heat was brutal. This does change the odds of me choosing this race again. Anyone else?

Probably a good idea ... I decline last year because of that heat - and opted for IMWI this year ...

Very good move. I have no idea why they ever did this race in August. What a dumb idea. The year I did it, 2009, it was actually very pleasant temperature wise. But every other year has been brutal.

I cant say I like it.

Both years I did the race it was scorching hot. That was part of the challenge, can you win against the course and the heat.

Not sure how they will get everything off in time with dawn being later than the normal start.

I can only assume that WTC did this because they wanted the race to fill up.

This is exactly the reason, and it makes total sense.
I signed up for IMLOU reluctantly, after missing out on IMAZ and IMFL. Admittedly, I was intimidated by the heat. The challenge of an Ironman is more than enough on its own.

I'm not concerned about sunrise time, since the August IM already starts before sunrise, and the difference between late-August and early-October is roughly 30 minutes.

I like this move. If I ever do another IM, Louisville was always my most likely choice, now even more so.

I did it in 2011 and it was warm, but the temperature didn't even reach 90 degrees that day. I'd trained all summer in the "heat dome" over Kansas, with every long run and ride topping 100 degrees, so high 80s were very comfortable for me that day. Others found a lot to complain about but high 80s even with humidity was not nearly as bad as it could have been.

That said, I am highly interested in the 2015 race, it definitely moved up on my list!

I have to agree. Certainly a great business move. Probably a perfect race for a first timer. I was looking forward to IMLOU 2015 because of the heat and the warm water; it was a unique race. Now it's mainstream; plus, it's smack dab in the middle of marathon season. I cannot see myself signing up for it at this point. I'll find a more challenging IM and run a destination marathon (MCM, Chicago, St. George, etc.) instead.
