Subject: Choosing a used entry level bike
I am looking to finally upgrade from my pimped out Schwinn aluminum road bike to a used entry-level bike. I am stalking these four on craigslist near me. All claim to have limited miles (ridden by a little old lady only on Sundays, I know). Any thoughts on the bikes or things I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated.

A 2011 Cervelo P1 upgraded with a Shimano Ultegra brake set. $1,199.

A 2011 Cervelo P2 with Shimano Ultegra. $1,500.

A 2013 Felt B16 with Shimano Ultegra. $1,400.

A 2012 Quintana Roo Lucero with Shimano Ultegra/Dura Ace. $1,200.

Thanks for your thoughtful replies.

The B16 / P2 are pretty good steps above "entry level" so that's where I would be.

Considering they fit you of course...

Check us out here... plenty of used/late model bikes that may work for you. Better pricing typically too!

And a few more details. I'm 5'9.5". For the uninitiated are these differences significant or nominal?

B16 54cm, Top tube 545, BB drop 70, Stack 527, Reach 426

Wasn't sure we ever had a Cervelo P1. You got it from us? I'd be happy to host you up in the office to show you some in person to help with the process. No pressure to buy... just knowledge and awareness.

Thanks!

Someone your size, should be on the P1 or B16, I'd lean more towards the P1, it has a shorter stack, which is the height of the frame at the top where the fork tube comes out. The stack relates to how low you can put the handlebars. If you're flexible or plan on workin on flexibility, I'd lean towards the lower stack of the P1. The P2 is too big for you, and I can't comprehend the QR, it is tall and short, but it seems the P1 is more accomodating.

Depending upon your inseam length, and torso, and crank length, but I'd guess that you have about a 72.5 cm saddle height from the bottom bracket, and with the typical stem and spacer stack height of 6 cm, you'll have a saddle to elbow pad drop of about 10cm, which would be a good starting point, IMO, and depending upon bar selection, you could potentially have as much as 16cm, but that would be for uber flexible people, like LEEGO

for what it's worth, your height means almost nothing when it comes to picking a bike size.

Yes (it provides a range of 2 frame sizes), and no (if finally depends upon comfort and flexibility.. which can be worked on).

I went back and double checked the QR data to make sure I posted the numbers accurately. I did. A few other data pieces I copies down:

P1: Head Tube Length 105, Front center 609, Standover 762.
P2: Head Tube Length 140, Front center 628, Standover 795.
Lucero: Head Tube Length 125, Front center 605, Standover 762.
B16: Head Tube Length 110, Front center 596, Standover 764.

I don't fully understand all the data, but even I can see the QR is different. Looking forward to seeing it tonight.

So I checked out both the Felt and the QR tonight. I couldn't tell an appreciable difference between the two. Should I have been able to?

If you are motivated to learn, google for stack and reach for bicycles. Here are two, http://www.slowtwitch.com/Bike_Fit/Road_Bike_Fit/Reasonable_bike_fi... and http://www.slowtwitch.com/Bike_Fit/Choosing_a_Tri_Bike_via_Stack_an...

There are other places for info. Do not rush your decision.
