Elite 3140 | Subject: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs Just curious about this. When you do your normal training runs (non-brick) around your home/park etc do you usually wear tri shorts or normal running shorts? I typically only wear running shorts when I am running, thinking that I do not want to be even more of a trigeek wearing my trishorts on normal runs, though I find them more comfortable. It may have been that it was an IM venue at LP but there seemed to be a lot of people wearing tri shorts and kits during training runs whther they were volunteers or competitors getting in their last runs before raceday. So please feed my curiosity thanks

Champion 7036 Sarasota, FL | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I just wear regular running shorts most of the time. I bought some new LG tri shorts this year, so I did try them out a few times before I used them in a race. Mark |

Member 388 Miami | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs Always running shorts, even sometimes after I brick I change quickly into running shorts. My wife told me that if I want to run wearing spandex around our neighborhood, I can only do it between 1 am and 5 am. |

Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs Unless it's a race sim where clothing is an issue, i just wear running shorts and a tech tee. Even the day before the race at the venue, still just plain old running stuff. At an IM venue race week though, all bets are off. That's just a parade |

New user 175 Houston, Texas | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I wear my tri shorts for all runs and all bikes. I may do some short runs (under 6 miles) in normal running shorts, but I just don't like running anything longer than that in regular running shorts. I get all kinds of uncomfortable with regular running shorts. I used to care about what people would think, but after a full season of swimming in tights, biking in tights, and racing in tights, I might as well use them on the run. I use them on the bike as well since I wore out my bike shorts and figured if I am going to spend $60+ on shorts, I might as well have the ability to use them for every sport, not just biking. |

701 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I only wear my tri-shorts when I'm biking or biking/running. They're far more comfortable than any bike short I've ever worn so if I'm just riding, that's my first choice. I'm a tri-beginner and really only a beginner at fitness. I don't have a lot of 'specific' clothing because I really have little need for it. As someone else noted, I too wear whatever's clean and/or quickest to get into. Sometimes it's the plaid drawstring/elastic shorts I wore to work. I own a dirty factory, so I wear shorts in the summer time. Cruddy ones. As long as it's comfortable and doesn't cause any....uhm...issues...south of the border. I wouldn't wear cargo shorts on a run. Only because I'm from St. Louis and we consider those to be dress shorts. Jean shorts are for Cardinal games and backyard BBQs featuring pork steaks and "Washers" tournaments. You gotta save the cargo shorts for church night and weddings. Unless, of course, you went to one of the 'right' high schools. In which case, madras shorts with a homemade needlepoint belt featuring the names of your kids, the local sports teams, or some other personal theme is acceptable for any event or activity. I am particular about underwear and socks, though. Edited by jhaack39 2014-07-29 3:25 PM |

Veteran 434 Apex, NC | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs Swim suit, running clothes, and bike clothes for the various sports unless... I am breaking in a new kit, I am doing a brick where it won't be easy to change into my running shorts, or it's crazy hot out (95 and up). On the last one, I hate when running shirt and shorts get so drenched and sloppy. I wear my tri kit because it's tight and I sweat right through. Of course, at that temp there are few people out on the trail to see me anyway. |

1055 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs Don't under estimate a good running top too. Much better than a tech t. Be careful on wearing your trisuit or tri bottoms for training. They are never tighter than when you put them on for the first time. The looser they are, the more drag they create on both the swim and the bike. You want your race kit to be skin tight. |

I train almost 100% in my tri shorts (I do wear a cycling jersey when riding the bike) I do have separate ones for racing and training. |

Member 1004 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I wear running shorts when it's just a run. I wear biking shorts for a brick up to 7 km. They don't seem to bother me too much on the run. If my biking shorts are dirty, I'll wear my tri shorts. |

157 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I don't have a ton of gear yet, but prefer my tri shorts to either running or biking shorts. I wear the others too depending on what's clean, but apparently have no shame about running through my neighborhood in spandex. I wear them to the Y too - maybe the weightlifters are laughing at me, but I don't care. I have a one piece tri suit that I wear for races, and my shorts are just for training now. |

Master 8247 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I usually race in a one piece but almost never train in it beyond occasional open water swims. I have a couple of pairs of tri shorts and do often wear them for bricks, just so I won't have to change clothes between bike and run. Otherwise, I generally run in running shorts or sometimes compression shorts--I like the supportive feel of them if I'm a bit tired or sore from a previous workout, or doing really hard speedwork. I also have several tri tops that I bought before I finally settled on a one piece for racing. I only use them for the occasional wetsuit race, as they all flap around too much on the swim. They actually work great as run tops. |

434 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I wear tri shorts for just about all my training runs. I don't compete much, but have a trisuit that I keep just for races. My wife (and teenage daughters) don't like the look, but none of them are out running with me. As a few others have noted, in the heat it is way more comfortable with tri gear - especially on a long run. I wear for running races, too. There are about 10 percent who do as well, so I figure that I am not alone. |

36 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs I wear either running shorts and a tank top or my tri shorts and a tank for my training runs. I have started to prefer my tri shorts now that it has started to rain more here. They are more comfortable when it is hot and rainy out. I wear my trisuit about twice a month for runs and brick workouts just to make sure I am used to running in it. After a while you start to not to care what other people think about what you look like. Besides, I don't think tri shorts are any "scarier" than supper short running shorts. |

358 | Subject: RE: Tri shorts/kit during trianing runs If I'm only running, I'll run in running shorts. If I'm only cycling, I'll ride in cycling shorts. If I'm doing a brick, I'll use tri-shorts and a jersey on the bike, and switch to a singlet on the run. I see a lot of guys wearing our team kit when training, but it looks a little goofy to me to be out riding with all the sponsor logos and such. I keep it simple with a white jersey and black or team shorts.
