Is there a category in "sports" on the BT training log for that? Depending on the person and type of shopping, I found the following categories could fit quite nicely: adventure racing agility boot camp conditioning cheerleading divine breathing orienteering power walking skipping wrestling Do you do agility with your dog(s)? I've always thought about it, and when our oldest dog was a youngster I "trained" him on the play equipment at a park near our house, but I've never done it for real. Would love to someday. Two of our dogs would totally enjoy it! You should try Nosework instead. It's essentially civilian sniffer dogs, based on the training they do for military and police dogs. We do it with one of our border collies--it totally wears her out (success!!)--and we're going to start with the other one soon. It's way cheaper and there's a lot less wear and tear on you and your dogs but there's still competition and camaraderie. All you need are some boxes, some essential oils (birch, clove and anise), some Q-Tips, and a little metal container thingy that you get from the trainer. Check out K9nosework.com if you're interested. You could even have your kids help you hide the stuff for the dogs to find. After your post I looked in to this. There is a trainer near home. She doesn't have a web site but I plan to email her. Hey, one of the Manatees really does do competition agility. Who is it? Did she disappear? Maybe my head got whacked a bit harder than I thought ... Anyway, I used to teach agility (and obedience, and introductory scenting). SO. MUCH. FUN. Doooo eeeeeeet In the meanwhile, all of own 'children' have been wild ragamuffins. Preacher's kids, and all that. |

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) We've scratched the possible tri off our list for this weekend. Thought about it up until last night, but check out this article. Anyone had OWS in water like this? There was a swim clinic yesterday, and people were posting about how bad the water is. Plus another storm coming up from Mexico in the next couple of days which means more crap into the lake. |

The race TJ and I are doing this weekend had a really small turnout last year. It was just after all the flooding and I'm sure people didn't want to put themselves in that awful soup. |

That's stupid. I'm not doing that." Her poor handler got really flustered but it really was quite funny. She finally threw her hands up in the air and walked off the course. |

LOL...that time of year it's cooling down, but next weekend isn't wetsuit legal. Although, the water may be rather *extra* buoyant on its own by the looks of it. You just snapped me out of my procrastination today. With no race this weekend, I was feeling pretty lazy. Thanks! I always look forward to seeing what long ride you and J have done. Funny. I always look forward to seeing how many races you're doing each weekend Our ride on Saturday was rough. Supposed to be an "easy-ish" 34mi loop that would take about two hours. I planned to do two loops and J was going to do three. It sounded great until we got to riding... 20-25mph steady wind with 30+ gusts! We had to pedal on the downhills to get 12mph where we can coast 25+ normally. And I've never had that pit in my stomach that one little mistake on balance would put me into the ground with the crosswinds. A friend went out with us for his first long ride and first time with clipless. Lots of pausing and turning around to check on him, plus the wind, made it a three hour loop. He was toast, I called it quits, and J went out for one more since he's working out nutrition issues. |
