Subject: Sprint Tri 3 weeks before first Oly?
Training for my first Oly (Aluminum Man - The Dalles, OR) in September and saw there is a sprint tri 3 weeks before near my home town. I figure I can "train through" and just use that as the near-peak of the training regimen... Thoughts?

Thanks

A sprint 3 weeks before an Oly should be no problem. That gives you plenty of time to recover, so you could hit it hard if you wanted to.

And thanks for mentioning an event I've never heard of. I'm also in the NW, Spokane, and would consider traveling to that one. It's probably very windy, I'd guess.

Another event that I've done is Titanium Man OLY in Kennewick. Highly recommended and only a couple of hours from The Dalles.

Sounds like the perfect time to do one. Just don't get injured!

Thanks all. Yes expecting the usual gorge winds. The bike will be hard and hilly. Now set on doing the sprint in west linn, next door to where I live. Love this site!

I would think no problem. Granted an Olympic is further but I did Sprints 6 days apart a couple weeks ago.

Go for it!  Keep it as a training day if your first Olympic is important...don't want to blow up and get injured.

Sounds a perfect time to practise your transitions under a bit of time pressure that you can't get in training.

I would recommend it. I am still very new, I have done 3 sprints and one Oly, and did one of the sprints the week before. I didn't push hard in any of them and I had no probs!

I just did one four weeks before my first Oly... I think all the longer training distances are making me recover faster then I on previous sprints.

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

I'm tapering this week for my first sprint triathlon. I'm thinking I may need to adjust my calorie intake for the decreased workout load? How do I make sure I am properly fueled for the race?

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

I'm in decent shape and have no weight to lose but have absolutely no tri experience, what’s the best plan of attack that won't put me back in the waiting room?
