I want to hear some success stories of using the BT Full Ironman Plan.

I understand the theory behind the lower run volume and I REALLY want to follow this plan, however my coach is under the theory that you have to train for a full marathon with high run volume (bike and swim are the same).

I just did did a full marathon in the spring and the training really took a toll on my body. I ached all the time. That is why I want to follow the lower volume in the BT plan as I think it will be better for by body.

So, what has your experience been with the BT plan and HOW hard to I push back with my coach??

I can actually send this to Coach Mike Ricci.  Though one question for you, when you mention 'high run volume'  - are you referring to run training 5-6x per week?

I mean BT total volume is much like a half marathon and my coach is more like a full marathon. As a comparison, I am about 14 weeks out and BT long run this weekend is 14 km whereas my coach wants me to run 30 km.

He really feels that I will not be ready for the full ironman. Which is now just putting worry in my head.

So that is about a 11min/mile.  That explains it.  Your runs will peak at 2:30 twice around October.  Yes, that puts you shorter than the mileage you need but the cap at 2:30 is specific per the way these were designed to minimized the pounding and possible injury that you experienced with a more rigourous Half or Full Mary plan.  We do not want people doing long runs over 2:30...maybe 3:00 for HIM's and IM's.

We have an explanation here about halfway down and some alternatives;

Let me know if that helps or if you have more questions on this.

Using a high-volume schedule for many months is not the best tactic. Build speed and skill several months out, and then transition to a high-volume IM plan.

This plan is an advanced plan in terms of volume and intensity and appropriate for someone who is looking to go under 5:00 and as fast as 4:30. There isn’t a lot of fluff in the plan.

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This training plan is written to prepare you for your first Ironman. While just a beginner’s plan, the hours per week start at a significant 8 hours.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
