Subject: 70.3 races in New England
Next summer, my husband and I are planning taking a two week road trip through New England (no set time, yet, but no later than mid-August). Lately, people have gotten me thinking about doing a HIM. For some reason, I like to do races when I travel, and all three of my half marathons have been in different states. I noticed that there is a HIM in Vermont at the end of June (New England Trifest), and one in New Hampshire in August (Timberman). Does anyone have any experience with these or others in the region? Maine would also work. I live in WV, and am not afraid of hills.

Rev3 has a HIM in Old Orchard Beach in Maine, scheduled for 8/24 this year. Have heard good things about it.

Trifind or the "races" link above on this site will help find whats out there.

I've done Timberman and its a good race. run by WTC, and has all the bells and whistles you'd expect. Awesome swim, bike is hillly to start & finish, and run is fun with lots of locals out supporting.

Patriot Half in June is a fantastic race. Organization, course, etc. Its all fantastic. Usually done Fathers Day weekend.

Havent' done any others but I know Quassy in June, Pumpkinman in early Septemerber, rev3 in Maine in August. Saw Martha's Vineyard has a new one this year in September as well.

Pumpkinman is a great race especially if it's your first. Great time of year to be in Maine too as most of the tourists have left.

Most have been mentioned already, save for Quassy (rev3) and Mighty Moss (independent), both in CT in June. There are a bunch in NY as well, but that isn't really New England. Patriot is probably your best bet and a favorite for a first HIM, but it sells out quickly and early, so stay on it. Quassy and Moss are both pretty brutal, I wouldn't recommend either for your first.

X2 - People rave about it and I'm hoping to do it next year!

A word on Quassy - It's an amazing course, well run, but it will kick your butt! It does have the advantage of being held at an amusement park so thats a perk if you have kids!

The Patriot Half looks interesting, although a bit out of the way for what we had planned. I definitely want to stick to a fresh water race because I don't swim in salt water very often, and you know, nothing new on race day.

Timberman looks like fun. I love it when people come out to cheer.

There is a Half @ Lake George in the Adirondacks of upstate NY at the end of August. Not sure if that is close enough to your road trip.

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.

There is a marvelous destiny out there waiting for you too, but only if you are willing to take chances and put yourself on the line.
