Comments:

wasn't expecting anything after a week of pigging out and not running. Very small race, smaller than I expected. About 35 total for full, half, and 5 k. At the Half marathon turn around, I realized I was in first place. Tried to just hold steady. At the full turn around, I had a 4 min lead. At 20, the second place guy was not in sight. at 23, I started to think that I may win. Held it steady and actually ran my fiorst ever negative split -after 55 marathons, and won!
What would you do differently?:

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not training

Event comments:

Good smaller race. The town it was in had only ~1700 people. Tons of enthusiastic volunteers out to help, especially in the constant rain. Great family vacation trip. Wrangell itself is pretty small, but combining it with Denali, Kenai Fjords, etc, made it a great vacation.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.

I can't say it enough, the feeling of treading water for that final minute, helicopters over head, Mike Riley's Iron-voice over the P.A. - just awesome. I cannot believe I'm here!
