Hey all!

Seems I'm quite busy traveling this Fall and won't be able to do many of my usual races this year (Lifetime Tri, SOMA, Tour de Scottsdale). Looking at the Bartlett Lake tri and thought it looked interesting. Anyone done it? Tips, recommendations, advice?

Biking and specifically climbing is my strength, and my coach thought this would be a good one for me to do. Would love to hear prior experiences, grade % of the climbs etc. I need to get out there and ride the course to get a feel.

I also thought that with so much climbing, riding my road bike for this one would be best. I have a Trek Madone road bike and a Cervelo P2 TT bike. Thoughts?

Thanks so much!

I think it is one of the hardest races in Az. If climbing in your strength, this is a good race for you

The bike course is the toughest I've ridden. A 6 mile 7-ish% climb. If you do the Oly you get to do the climb twice. While the ride down the hill is pretty exciting, I would pick the roadie over the tri bike for this one. They even figured out a way to make you swim uphill.
It's a great race! Tri Family Racing is a pretty good company. They do a lot of "beginner" type races. The Bartlett race is sort of a graduation to the real deal. Good luck.

Tough Course. I did the Olympic years ago. I used my heavy road bike which wasn't the way to go. I am training for St. George UT this year and Bartlett is my training grounds.

The % grades are from 4%-14%

The bike is a killer but if you like to climb you will love it!

The run for the first 1.5 mile is maybe a 8% grade. But hang in there because it's rolling hills after. The turn around is tough. Between 4%-6% grades rolling 6 climbs.

Need strong abs to keep your inside moving around on the down hills.

Good luck to all!!! Fun experience!!!

Thanks for all the replies!! I decided against doing this race this year. Too many out of town trips on the weekend (with not enough bike training) and trying to save some money. My heart wasn't in it.

Hope anyone racing has a fabulous race tomorrow!!!

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.

If you are calm while everyone around you is losing it, you probably don’t know what the hell is going on.
