Subject: Goggles - mirrored or tinted?
I am getting ready to begin competing in open water ("clear" water and murky) and I am trying to figure out what is best: tinted or mirrored? I prefer goggles that have 180 degrees visibility. I currently wear Aqua Sphere Kaiman clear goggles in the pool. The tinted and mirrored are not sold locally so I have to take a risk at buying online. Any suggestions?

For early morning summer races, I highly prefer mirrored (or, 2nd choice, some highly tinted-gray tint) googles. They make it far easier for you to see buoys ahead of you when you're sighting, especially when the early morning sun is low in the sky (and sometimes shining behind a buoy, or shining behind the swim finish).

The first buoy on the lake where I train is directly into the sun. I have a pair of mirrored Aquaspheres that I use for OWS.

After three triathlon seasons, I finally decided that I wanted to actually see well during the swim portion. My vision is not so great. I had to find better goggles.

So here I was, a hard-working, respectable, just-turned-forty-six-year-old, who never considered herself athletic, lining up in my swim cap and goggles for my first triathlon.

Getting fall discounts on triathlon equipment is more difficult than finding the Great Pumpkin, right? Well, I’m here to say it isn’t so. Deals for triathletes are plentiful - you just have to look.
