Subject: Training Log without Internet
I am in the Navy and I'm about to leave on deployment for ten months. I have a Garmin 910XT with enough gear to track treadmill runs and spinbike rides and I plan to put in enough training during my downtime to make an attempt at Ironman Lake Tahoe when I get back. Here is my problem, I can get my Garmin fit files onto my laptop but I can't view them without the internet. I have tried the old Garmin Training Center but it won't communicate with the new Garmin ANT software. Does anyone have any ideas or know any programs I can use to analyse my workouts?

Thanks for the help!

SportTracks might fit the bill.  https://www.zonefivesoftware.com/

I haven't used it in a while but older versions had a plugin that would import fit files.

not so much no internet but you can't plug in devices to upload data to get analysis at least on ship computers

maybe if you are taking a laptop - and I don't know how garmin does it - upload the file to your laptop; burn to a CD, move to a ship computer and then put on the garmin website for analysis?

Thank you all for your help. Yes there is some internet but we aren't allowed to plug in any non Navy devices to the computers. My laptop doesn't have an optical drive so cds are out too. I will give the SportTracks a try but I am not sure I want to spend $65 on it. I will keep looking and post anything I find.

Thanks again

If you're a mac user- Golden Cheetah is stand-alone.  i.e. you can upload your garmin files right into it, without internet.

oh, and it's open source (i.e. free)

It's primarily for power meter tracking, but it will certainly plot your HR, speed, distance and give you a whole training log.  Not sure it's the best choice, but it's a choice.

I didn't realize they were charging for it now.  If you search around you can probably find an older version that is free.  If you do find an older version just make sure you don't upgrade to the latest version when you open the app and it asks you.

Golden Cheetah works for windows too, that's what I was going to suggest.

Golden Cheetah is great for cycling with power, so-so for running. useless for swim.
Raceday Apollo is very good. I would have to double check but I think they have some HR based load tools in there.
WKO is very good.
I have heard good things of Sportracks but never used it myself.

Oddly enough, getting swim workouts in when deployed on a warship is harder than you'd think. They really frown on just jumping over the side every day...

Too bad. Since I wrote that, GC has added swimming and good running metrics :-)
It will be released any day now.
