This was the 2nd pack that Jr. was in on lap 4 last weekend.  About a dozen ended up down.  Notice the perpindicular bike in the middle of the kids still upright on the left....not for long.  They were right at 30 mph when the bomb went off.

What's the protocol in this situation?  Do those left standing tear off or do they wait for competitors who are able to continue?

The race rolls on...nobody waits on anybody, and yeah, some take the opportunity to jump. (and that's fine)  I think half of the kids got up and conitnued, the other half were either too broke up to go on or their bikes were.....I saw a carbon frame and carbon bars snapped on two different bikes.....not sure the extent of the injuries.  The other thing that happened was the pack got fractured, and since it was the last lap the crash affected the race to a bigger degree than it would have otherwise.

Ziggie - all of those kids know each other, and there is a big team aspect to DL racing for attacks, etc......they're just looking to see who got wacked and who's left.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no better racing in triathlon.

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
