I went to a bike store and they accidentally sold me the wrong size tube. My tires say 700c 27x1 1/4 but the shop accidentally gave me 27x1 1/8. They said it is okay to use.... But is it actually safe?

Yes, it is safe. A tube will fit a range of tires. The typical road tube fits between 19 and 25mm tires. This is a difference of a little less than 1/4". Your tube is 1/8" larger than the tire, so it is in range. Your tube should hold air better since it will not be stretched as much.

I've used 27mm-32mm tubes on 25mm tires.
I've even used a mountain bike tube (26") on a road bike wheel (700c) in an "emergency" situation.

So my tube blew the other day and when I went to use this one, which I was suspicious of, I found it to be defective... Just my luck!

Just curious ... I know this is an older concern, but I have both 27" and 700 wheels (different bikes). The tubes come with different valves / stems, and generally the 27" with the thicker valve stem will not fit into my 700 rim. Presta vs Schraeder

Just posting this in case the question comes up again for someone and they do a search, and come across this post...
