Steelhead ran out of finisher medals and some people were pretty upset. I did hear the RD was going to mail the medal to them, however, not too many people were thrilled with that either since it's not given at the finish line.

same thing happened to me at Chicago Marathon in 2012. It was so anti climatic. I finally got it in the mail engraved even a month or so later. Still took what should been an exciting end to a huge day for me to one of utter disappointment.

Seriously?  Because you didn't get the medal?  Dude.....you did it!  Nobody sees the medal anyway......or cares.  But nobody can take away the feat of running that race, medal or not.

What do you mean "nobody sees the medal" ? Don't you wear yours around?

I tend to be a sentimental person, so I like having them, because, for me, seeing them brings back the memories of the training and racing in each event.  It's the same as occasionally reading my race reports from over the years.  It helps me continue to enjoy the events long after they're completed.

It's one of my personal quirks.  I also save ticket stubs from concerts, movies, and sporting events for the same reason.

Exercising in inclement weather is a lot like getting a flu shot or going to your in-laws for the holidays—you know that it’s probably good for you but still isn’t something that thrills you to death.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
