Road around on a side road near the course doing loops on it. Got in a good 30 minute warmup. Felt very very humid.

Comments:

Went pretty well. Went out too hard, again. My first 4 miles or so were about 30watts higher than the rest of my race average. Slowly picked off a few riders and kept a mental note of who was still out there in my CAT along the way. When I came up to the first(only) turn on the course I noticed that it was a sweeping turn and I could take it at full speed if I took the yellow line path, but I couldn't really see too well all the way around it. About the time I was entering I saw my teammate coming the other way through it. After the race we were talking and we both thought about taking the fast line, but knew it would be bad IF we were unlucky enough to encounter another rider at the exact same time. We concluded that we would have had to change teams and move to another state if we had hit each other head on in the only turn on the whole course.

Near the end of the race I ended up having to stop in the middle of the road about 2.5 miles from the finish for an EMS vehicle helping a rider who had been hit by a truck! I found out later that squirrels had gotten caught in a few riders wheels and taken them out too. I didn't complain, can't really get upset at EMS workers helping someone out. I also knew I had passed everyone who started ahead of me in my CAT and there was only one rider who started after me who I knew wasn't a risk of catching me.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure, I raced hard and I didn't blow up. The single turn on the out and back could have been handled better.
Post race
Warm down:

Rode around a bit, was supposed to do an 8 mile run.... I told my coach who was there I wasn't doing it. She finished 1st OA for the women's racers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Humidity and trucks hitting people. I really thought after my last 40k a few weeks prior that I could go sub 55, oh well.

Event comments:

Good race. Nice to get out there and win a state championship. Little lame they don't give a championship jersey to the winner like they do for the RR and Crit.
