HITS Triathlon Series
Sunny
Total Time = 4h 15m 3s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 50-55
Age Group Rank = 11/11
Pre-race routine:

No sleep the night before, fret and worry about hills
Event warmup:

stretch
Swim
  • 48m 26s
  • 1500 meters
  • 03m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

At first I started swimming and did not put my face in the water for some unknown reason. I reminded myself I would be ok and when I did swim it felt good...actually good. I didn't feel like I pushed really hard but kept a steady pace. Just swam.
What would you do differently?:

trust what little training I did and my previous experience and know that I could do this.
Transition 1
  • 04m 31s
Comments:

My legs cramped when I first tried to stand up to go up the boat ramp to transition. This caused me to fall back into the water. Gravel all the way to the bike ramp and I had pebbles on my feet. This would be a good time to have a bucket of water.
What would you do differently?:

I liked hat this transition had a stool to sit un...maybe bring a stool for siting too.
Bike
  • 1h 52m 17s
  • 40 kms
  • 21.37 km/hr
Comments:

I ended up stopping and walking up one hill. Wish I hadn't. I also dropped fuel twice and had to stop to get it...It was all I had and couldn't spare to lose it. Should have taken more fuel on the bike to help with the run. I was worried about the hills when I started. Too worried.
What would you do differently?:

Take my bike to Reno and ride more hills.Just ride more.
Transition 2
  • 04m 15s
Comments:

I always take a few steps with my helmet still on my head.
What would you do differently?:

Practice at least once .
Run
  • 1h 25m 32s
  • 10 kms
  • 08m 33s  min/km
Comments:

The auto calc is not working; more like 13 mins an hour. I had to walk at first. I applied the same bike ride theory. Walked up hill ran down and the last mile I felt much better and ran!
Post race
Warm down:

Lay down

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slacked off in the Fall; then had pneumonia then another type of infection in my chest. I lost 10lbs of muscle during my illness and it took a long time to come back from that. Lost a lot of training time.

I was freaked about the entire course and starting with anOLY distance for my first race of the season. It did go to my head.
Yoga made a world of difference as I started to get yoga strong before the race. Now i need to find balance between training and doing yoga.

Event comments:

No food left and not a lot of options for recovery.

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.
