It's the middle of August. It's summer (for many of us). It's sunny, hot and humid (for many of us). So here is your MidAugust Meltdown Challenge!

1) Set a goal to achieve by the end of August.
2) Meet it.

Yep, that's it. Simple, simple, simple.

Set a goal. What do you want to accomplish/achieve during the next 2 weeks? Then go do it.

My goal for the next two weeks is to get as many colored boxes on my training log as possible. The "plan" is to do an activity for at least 15 minutes per day.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like much. But believe me, compared to what I've been doing lately, this is a decent goal.

I'll Play

6 runs of 3.1 miles plus
6 swims over 15 minutes
6 "real" rides, not commuter or riding with kids.

pretty simple - I have 3 100m rides before I start taper for IM Chatt - 2 of those in August - goal is to get them done successfully, with faster splits on each - my last one was 7:20, so I'm giving myself a 7:10 and 7:00 goal for them

I am in. I have been out with a hurt back for a couple of weeks and have done NO training and had to bow out of my tri last week. I am fed up and going to start some mild training. So my goal is to get stretching/ yoga in every day and at least 30 minutes of run/bike/swim in daily.

Run 2 (or if I cheat, run 2 & 3) And a swim slow lethargic and telling me how much work I have to do.

first ride was a fail - well rather massive thunderstorm complete with lightening to talked to trainer and we reduced the ride to 60 miles on the bike trainer - that was torture enough

and Saturday's ride which was going to be 100 has been reduced down to 80 since I have new cycling shoes to break in, plus a knee that is being funky right now

You are actually doing great because 60 miles on the trainer = 120 real miles.

Do NOT overdo your knee! You will need it in Chattanooga.

we (my bike store and I) think we figured out the knee issue - besides my shoes/cleats being completely worn out - I guess my shoes are like 2 sizes too big, but they were really narrow, so we think had to go big to fit width (they were bought from a relatively small store that didnt' carry a lot and I didn't know better at the time) - so new shoes and cleats later and I have to stop back by the store on saturday to let him know how my ride went/pain wise etc

It is great you have such a responsive bike shop! Hope your ride is beautifully pain free.

I love my bike store - and i'm in there so often...haha - I have a frequent buyer discount which helps - but they have like an insane return period - I think for the saddle I just switched out, it was like 90 days

Hey ...

Random question. You trainer tracks your miles? I just bought one this spring and its just a basic one. I like having the convenience but its hard to set the resistance and track my speed.

The trainer itself doesn't track your miles.  You will need to attach a speed and cadence sensor to your bike and pair it with what you are using to display speed.

What everyone said. I had just bought a new bike computer with cadence. At the NYC tri, It fell off and now is somewhere along the Hudson Hwy in Manhattan. I re-ordered a new computer yesterday. You don't need the most expensive one out there. They all work about the same. Just mount it better than I did.

Well, I can mark the challenge down as a failed attempt. Just an off year

I can attest to jettisoning a computer, I did a week before IM Florida in 2007 when I was tooling around Coors Field checking out the happenings before the World Series game. Traffic was too crazy to try and get back to it...

August was NOT my month for training. I am hoping September will be better.
