Does anyone else get a great deep sleep the night after the race? I go into a coma and get the best uninterrupted sleep I get all year.

In 35 years of endurance sports, no, never. I always dream that I somehow miss the start and/or some piece of essential equipment, or I can't find my bike.

Not here.  I'm not by nature a great sleeper unless drug induced.

I've trained myself to try to get my best sleep two nights before my race.  All else I just go with..

Not me. It's hard me for me to get over 5 hours of sleep, even though I'm exhausted a lot of the time. After my IM last year, I got like 3.5 hours of sleep. I woke up, ate some food, watched some TV, and a few hours later I could finally fall back asleep. My body only wants to sleep when I'm doing something. The second I hit the bed, I'm wide awake, race or no race.

Rarely the night before, but I do make it a point to go to bed extra early two nights before the race. That is actually the most important night of sleep, not the night before.

Getting extra sleep is a great recovery tool and I've never been as fast as I was when I started to think about the amount of sleep I get each night.

I normally crash and take a long nap after I get home from a race and then still sleep well that night.

I'm old and need my rest...

maybe for me after the race the stress level drops a bit and I relax and let nature take its course

Yes but it's usually beer induced. Otherwise I'm kicking myself for time left on the course.

Usually, no. However, this year after IM Whistler I basically started nodding off during dinner, fell into bed around 8:30 and slept rock solid for about 12 hours. Maybe linked to the fact that the Whistler course absolutely kicked my behind!
