Subject: My Dream Room

So my daughter is moving out at the end of the month and her old bedroom is all mine to setup however I want.  It's a grand old house and the rooms are huge.  My trainer is going in from the den.  My son wants to set his bike up on a trainer.  We'll add a treadmill (prefer to run outside but gives me options).  Big screen TV and sound system for those long rides.  I'm putting down a rubber type floor.

The room will also be my shrine where I will hang my medals, ribbons, Ironman posters, etc.  I'd also like to do the largest wall in race bib numbers.  I have hundreds from the last 30 years.  My question is how do I affix them to the wall without using thumbtacks and putting all those little holes in the wall?  I do not want to damage the finish on the walls as they are a textured plaster surface.  Anyone created a collage type wall with race numbers?

I used something like this as a kid to hang up posters on my walls, since my mom did not want holes. That does sound like a dream room and neat idea with the bib collage!

I made a collage of my bib numbers by connecting all of them corner to corner with the safety pins that came with them, so in the end they formed a big sheet that was 3'x5' roughly. That makes them not quite flush with the wall though, so I don't know if you'd want to go that route. The room sounds awesome, I'm comin over when the weather turns to crap

One thing to consider is how you'll cool the room.

In my "pain cave" I can't hang posters on certain walls due to the massive fan I have blowing. It will (and has) literally ripped them off the wall, with thumbtacks...

Something like this.

It's like that super tacky glue that peels of from packaged good or promotional stuff.

Hmmm....I did this when I was a kid, from my first swim/run races at age 9 or 10, tons of swim, track, and cross country meets and road races from the mile to the marathon, until I went off to college. I think I used something like Blu-tack to keep them on the walls. Mom would never have let me get away with damaging walls. For heavier stuff, there are various hanging products on the market (even here) that will generally stick things up to 10 pounds or so without needing nails or damaging walls. Here I mostly use adhesive with hooks, and hang pictures or other 3D things on the hooks.

For some reason, I haven't been that into the shrine concept since I started competing again at 40. Maybe just got it out of my system. I just hang my finisher's medals on a couple of stuffed animals, and display a few of my favorite race mementos (either ones where I did well, or where I worked really hard just to finish) on a shelf. My obsession is T-shirts--I think I have'em all, from age 10, in a couple of bags in my parents' house. Someday I will make a quilt.

Your dream room is my reality--you've just described my workout room!  I use these little 3M double sided sticky squares to hang all my bib numbers on my bib wall.  Even though it gets ridiculously hot and humid in there, everything stays put on the walls.  I also take motivational quotes that I like, print them out on bigger paper and hang them in my direct line of vision whether I'm on the TM in the winter or on my trainer.  I'm sure this goes without saying, but along with the big screen, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc--awesome for those long trainer/TM sessions.  I also have a large mirror in one section for strength training to check form, etc.  Have fun setting your room up!  My room is my little slice of heaven!

Lucky you!

For race medals, I use a corkboard. That way, I only have the nails in the wall to hold the board up.
