I've got a wheel dilemma..

I found a HED 650c disc clincher on ST and bought it.  It's got a 10-speed cassette, but not tire or tube.  (No biggie since I've got an extra tire and several tubes).

But the day after I bought it, someone posted a Zipp 909 wheel set on my club's Facebook page.  It's an older set, but Zipp says it is 10-speed compatible.  It also comes with a spare tire and wheel bag, but no cassette.  The downfall is that it's a tubular set.

I'm hung up on either keeping the HED and finding a front wheel, or selling the HED and buying the Zipps. The price on the Zipps is tempting.

depends on what you feel more comfortable riding (clincher/tubulars)

You can't buy 650c latex tubes for clinchers (although you can get creative with 700's if you wanted to.)
Braking will probably be a little better on the clinchers aluminum track. (assuming it has such)

Regardless of the money, do you want to get into the tubular world? Cassettes, tires and tubes are all easily changed. I am sure both wheels are plenty fast unless you are at the very pointy end of racing.

If you rode both those wheels 100 times each, I would bet you couldn't tell which one you rode which time.

Don't sweat it. Stick with what you got and avoid upgrade-itis once you're into pro level stuff.

My back wheel needs to be trued up. It has a slight side-to-side wobble, and I feel at times like I'm going to lose control when I ride. Is this something that I should only trust to my LBS to do?

The wheels are my first area of concern and I have started to shop around. I find it nauseating to think of spending the same amount for wheels as my bike. Any help?

Don't know how to take that rear wheel off of your bike? Is the chain making things difficult? Learn how to remove your rear wheel if you have to change your bike tire or fix a flat.

Being a fast swimmer put me up with the faster athletes. As expected, they started to pass me soon out of transition. Some would just slowly pass. Others with aero wheels would literally buzz by.

This article estimates how much time can be saved in sprint races by converting from stock aero wheels found on most tri bikes to more aero disk and composite spoked wheels.
