Overcast
Total Time = 2h 44m 54s
Overall Rank = 43/72
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/5
Event warmup:

Bike a little, Run a little, Swim a little, then breathe
Swim
  • 30m 15s
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I walked into the water when others dove and started swimming. I think I got a bit behind and was stuck in traffic. Tri-top was rubbing a bit under arms.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Felt far slower than it actually was.
What would you do differently?:

Should have went to a smaller gear to start - uphill start.
I got my suit off, but was struggling with the sequence. Need to practice T1
Bike
  • 1h 14m 54s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Went through a full bottle and a half on the bike - Finally got the fluids I needed.
What would you do differently?:

Rear disc worked (Did not fall off) and actually felt a little aero help on the down hill. The extra weight was not overly obvious on the climbs, but I could tell there was extra weight (Slower). A flatter/smoother course would benefit more with an even tempo. Did not expect the climbs.
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Took my sweet time to rack and re-rack the bike, Put on socks, shoes, Gel, and talked with Jess a bit. Prepping shoes for dismount went well.
Run
  • 55m 29s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran down the hills with my hands in the air shouting "Free speed".
F-it! I passed people on the hills and didn't see them again.
Guy next to me farted 3 strides in a row - I made a joke about "Activating Thrusters!"
What would you do differently?:

Water stop on second loop the cross-country group asked "You want a splash?" and I said "YES!"
well.. I thought it might be 1 or two people.. not whole damn group..
I was smiling and refreshed, but my shoes were a bit soggy for the second lap..... walked 20-30 seconds on second loop, including up one hill.
Band-aids or nipple guards to prevent chafing.. cause ouch!
Post race
Warm down:

Think I was the only one to go back into the water to cool down. WTH? It was awesome. The cold water always helps my legs cool down and prevents muscle soreness later.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Control-freak. Wanted to get to the course earlier so that I could be mentally calmer. Always seems rushed at these events.

Event comments:

Good race day! I was disappointed that only the top 30 or so of the International course was printed/posted at the event. Had to wait to see the results on-line a couple days later. Oh well - me and my 1st world problems.

The triathletes really inspired me. I watched them in awe as childlike thoughts went through my head like, "I want to do that!" But then reality set in. “Who are you kidding?
