Subject: You tube video suggestions for "couch to IM" success stories?

I am trying to motivate a friend who has lost about 60 pounds and has ambitions to do her first sprint in the spring.  I joked but not exactly that once she does the sprint there is a possibility that if she gets "addicted" she will probably want to work to a Oly, then maybe even a HIM or IM....She thought I was crazy.

I know some of you have dropped a ton of weight on your way to your IM, but does anyone have one of those youtube videos showing the transformation from being overweight/couch to finishing your first IM?

The stories are great but I want to send her to the video to see that it can be done.

Thanks

Our very own Tuwood made a great video of his transition from couch to triathlon.

The best inspiration i can think of is to actually to go to an IM and watch and/or volunteer.  When you see for yourself how there is every shape, size, age out there it is awesome and makes it feel achievable.  And the especially the finish line!  So awesome!

Any nearby IM's where you could go?

Heck, even watching the yearly recap of Kona and the challenged athletes ... I tear up just thinking about it.

search for Ben Does Life on google and youtube and he has a pretty inspirational video about his weight loss and IM Journey.

No videos but she can check out my blog which details my 70lbs weight loss journey and Tri Journey to doing IM. I have to update it sometime soon to include my RR for IMMT since I just finished my first IM on Sunday.

Give me another year or two.
I'm down 105 from my start point, close to 120 from my worst.

I'm considering thinking about, maybe evaluating the idea of a half next summer.

Then, maybe....in two years...celebrating my 45th year on earth with a full.

I realize it's a bit of a haul and will take more additional effort, more changes, some additional time, and some additional professional help.

But, as I told my wife and family, it's my brass ring and this would be my best shot. It won't get any easier. Something I always kinda dreamed about as a kid, but never thought possible...especially as an adult.

If it doesn't work out, I'll keep huffing and puffing my way through shorter races. It's fun.

Ah, i did understand it was for your friend - but maybe you could go together ... it is out of the way for most people but it's definitely something to behold! It was one of my first views into triathlon (seeing my then BF do IMC in 2007) - and i thought it was amazing!

She could even just watch some of the live feed of the finish line at IMLOU this weekend on ironman.com. Maybe not the same feeling but it would certainly give a view of the variety of finishers.

Look up Dustin Hinton and check out his blog.  He went from a tubby out of shape IT guy to an Ironman in a year.  And did it as a single dad too.

Really old video I did, I don't really make videos anymore but here is one I made in 2011 after my first Ironman. I was almost 300 pounds when I started my journey. I had gastric bypass so some might say I "cheated" but I don't let it bother me, I still had to work hard to lose the weight and keep it off. Have kept it off over 4 years now. I have had a very fulfilling life since undergoing the surgery in 2009. I finished my second Ironman last year

This aggressive couch to 5k program will get you running from nothing and will be the lead-up to any of the sprint programs.
