Subject: Best method to "jump- start" post-season weight loss
As I enter the back half of the season, I am attempting to pre-plan for the post-season in order to avoid the usual 5-7 lb weight gain. Although, I am at a healthy weight I feel it would be more productive if I stopped gaining and, subsequently losing the same weight when training ramps up again in January. To that end I am wondering what others have used to avoid the weight gain- program or diet wise. I have been using the racing weight program and find that to be effective, however, I wonder if there is something that can really start it off right and, for lack of a better term, "jump- start" weight loss/ maintenance in the off-season. Alright, thanks for the advice as always!!!

Bumping for interest. Helen, are you planning on doing any weight training or just completely giving your body a break? I hear cross training is a way to shed it all off (not crossfit) but not so sure myself as I've noticed my once amazing metabolism has slowed to a crawl...

I swim, bike, and run (not as intense, lower volume etc.), I also weight train, and add in Pilates, as well as tabata interval classes. I find mixing it up is good both mentally and physically.

I give myself 2 weeks of rest at the end of the season for my body to recover. Then it's training about 70-80% of my racing intensity. I expect to gain some weight, but limit myself. When the scale reads... I stop eating cookies, and add 15 minutes to my workouts. The key is moderation.

Losing fat is not difficult. So why does this continue to be an elusive goal for so many people, who “struggle” just to lose a few inches?
