Both of my kids participated in a fund-raising triathlon for Miracles of Mitch Foundation last week. In short, 12 years ago, cancer had taken over 9-year old Mitch's body. He made his father 'pinky swear' to continue to help kids with cancer even after Mitch's death.

Last year, my then 9-year old daughter did her first Miracles of Mitch tri. Her then 6-year old brother was left out because the minimum age is 7. This year they both did it. They totally smoked it! Below is a picture of my family's newest triathlete (and his veteran sister).

Way to go, kids!!  And way to go, Dad, for fostering their love of sports as well as their awareness about good causes and the privilege of physical health!!

My 7 year old before his last race this year. ZeroD suit not terribly expensive.

I love that your daughters knees are cut and scuffed up - kids don't seem to play outside enough these days. Congrats to them both.

It's funny that you noticed that...  She actually biffed it during the run in the race.  Both of my kids can kind of be weenies with minor injuries so I was giving her a hard time about the scrapes (Did you cry? Did you look to see if mom was around? Should we go to the doctor?).  Being used to my (? pathetic) sense of humor, she basically ignored my questions and said she got up, brushed herself off, and kept running.  She made me laugh--and proud.

My 8 YO daughter just finished her first tri 2 weeks ago.  First thing she asked was if I would do the race with her next year.  (Her the kids race and me the adult race.)

So proud.

That is awesome!  After one of my races this summer, the kids were figuring out who would do which leg of a tri relay (last check, 7yr old son: swim, not 7yr old me: bike, 10yr old daughter: run).
